I love these mini-breaks I have concocted! I used to rent a car and squeeze Book Club in amongst so many other visits with LA friends. Now I forgo the car and settle in for a comfy weekend with my Muse-of-Choice. You have each been so welcoming and I cherish the extra time and depth of these visits. I love being a fly on the wall in your lives!
Alison, this weekend was very special. I loved watching the comings and goings of your family (and there are a lot of comings and goings!). Everyone seemed so at ease in your new home and it was fun to watch Z & S at that next step just ahead of my kids - a glimpse into a future of high heels, bikinis and reading very thick books! I wanted to bottle the grace with which you handle Dan's popping in and out of the scene, and bring that home as a lesson for coping with Jean-Ray's travel schedule. I'm afraid I'm not so graceful at times.
One thing I've noticed from our last two meetings is how incredibly conversation starved I am. I'm afraid that I was gab gab gabbing away and overflowing like a shaken bottle of champaign...or maybe it was the many glasses of rose champaign that I DRANK! Whichever it was, you are all so kind, generous and patient. I'm not always putting my best self forward these days, but that's the beauty of this group. We accept whatever current state we each are in and welcome each other. The only thing we don't accept is absence (Sarona & Marie, we only accept it because we have no choice!) It's come as you are for The Muses. A great example of Unconditional Love!
The photo Elaine attached says all the rest and her description of the food makes my mouth water all over again. I have still been caught up imagining a life with young Hemingway. This book has some legs. Hard to shake. I'm now reading A Movable Feast, which Alison lent to me. Very fun to hear it from his perspective. As Alison was cooking and I was chatting....I mean HELPING...i told her that this book club has been a wonderful second education for me. It truly has! I continue to discover new paths of interest and gaping holes in my knowledge. Thank goodness I've got my Muses!
